The landscape transitions from the jagged interior peaks of Mariana and Tejas down to the alluvial plains where the Río Guayanés and Río Candelero meet the Caribbean Sea.

Along the shore, the settlement of Playa de Guayanés and the sheltered waters of Puerto Yabucoa anchor the maritime activity of the district.
