Pine Mtn and the southern reaches of the Piñon Range dominate this high-altitude landscape along the border of Elko and Eureka counties. The terrain is defined by complex drainage systems and isolated water sources, including Slump Spring, Red Spring, and Murdock Spring. These springs and seasonal waterways like Ferdelford Cr have historically dictated the movement of people and livestock through these arid uplands. To the southeast, the topography climbs toward Bunker Hill and the eponymous Ravens Nest peak, overlooking the descent into Lee Canyon. This survey captures the remote character of the Nevada interior, where the Public Land Survey System grid provides the only modern structure over a landscape of steep canyons and scattered high-desert riparian zones such as Mill Creek Spring.
