Rimrock Butte and the surrounding high plains of Glacier County are defined by deep drainage systems and sparse transportation routes in this 2017 survey. The landscape is carved by substantial water features including Cut Bank Creek, Cobell Coulee, and Powell Coulee, which dictate the local topography and the placement of the sparse road network. These coulees and creeks represent the essential water sources in an otherwise arid northern Montana environment, where land management is organized by the Public Land Survey System as indicated by the prominent township and range boundaries.
