The Yankee Ridge terminal moraine dominates this Central Illinois landscape, dictating the drainage of the Sangamon River and the Kaskaskia Ditch. In the late 1950s, the rural character of Hensley and Newcomb townships remained largely intact, punctuated by traditional landmarks such as the Oak Grove Ch and the Jersey Cem. The New York Central railroad cuts a diagonal path across the prairie, serving the small elevators at Rising.
