Bayou de Loutre meanders across the northern landscape of this region, feeding into the De Loutre Basin and eventually the Ouachita River near the eastern boundary. The terrain is characterized by a complex network of wetlands and minor tributaries, including Blasingame Brake, Long Slough, and Lake Drain Slough. Settlement patterns are concentrated around small communities such as Rocky Branch and Crossroads, the latter being the site of the Crossroads Cem. Along the riverbank, specialized landings like Bakers Landing and Lake Drain Landing indicate a long-standing relationship with the local waterways.
