Bayou Chicot and the surrounding piney woods of Evangeline Parish are defined by an intricate network of waterways and small rural settlements. The central hydrographic feature, Mountain Bayou Lake, branches out into several fingers, including Dossman Lake and Chicota Lake, which dominate the northern and central landscape. This region, characterized by a mix of forestry and dispersed family holdings, is dotted with numerous ancestral burial grounds such as Chaney Cem, Vanburg Cem, and Ferguson Cem.
