Salmo Mtn and the Salmo Divide anchor this high-altitude landscape along the international border of the United States of America. The terrain is defined by prominent summits like Prouty Peak, Leola Peak, and Shedroof Mtn, separated by the deep drainages of the S Salmo River and Sullivan Cr. A critical North-South corridor is formed by the Pacific NW National Scenic Trail, which winds through the Colville National Forest and Kaniksu National Forest. Small, high-meadow clearings such as Gypsy Meadows and Hughes Meadows provide rare level ground amidst the steep slopes of the Shedroof Divide. The map documents the intricate network of watercourses including Thunder Creek and Hughes Fork as they feed the larger river systems of the Pacific Northwest.
