Toledo Bend Reservoir dominates the landscape at the Texas-Louisiana border, its sprawling waters drowning the historical shoreline of the Sabine River. The reservoir's expanse is defined by a Normal Pool Elevation 172, which creates a jagged coastline of inlets like Palo Gaucho Bayou and Negreet Bayou. Along these shores, traces of earlier settlement remain, such as the riverfront site of Sabinetown and the community of Pendleton, where the Pendleton Bridge spans the water into Texas.

Deep within the Sabine National Forest, the map records numerous country churches and cemeteries, including Beulah Ch, Siloam Ch, and Miller Cem. This 2003 revision documents the modern configuration of the lake and forest lands, highlighting a landscape transitioned from a river-and-timber economy to one of recreational and hydroelectric importance.
