Mining operations and high-elevation settlements define this turn-of-the-century landscape at the intersection of the Sawtooth Mountains and the Smoky Mountains. Surveyed in 1895-6, the map records the industrial footprint of silver and gold extraction, featuring the Silver King Mine near Vienna and a cluster of claims including the King of the West Mine and Stormy Galore Mine surrounding the remote mountain settlement of Carrietown.

Hydrological features such as the headwaters of the Salmon River and the South Fork Boise River are prominently detailed, alongside alpine basins like Alturas Lake and Pettit Lake. Geothermal activity is noted at Worsewick Hot Springs and Hot Springs on the upper Salmon. The presence of the Columbia Mill and several placer locations, including the Rives Placer and Rollins Placer, indicates a period of active resource development before much of this area became protected wilderness.
