School Grove Lake and the surrounding glacial prairie of southwestern Minnesota define this agricultural landscape where the borders of Lyon, Yellow Medicine, and Redwood counties meet. The area is characterized by a complex network of wetlands and drainage systems, including Judicial Ditch Number Three and several county ditches that manage the water levels of the region's shallow basins. While some bodies of water like Timm Lake and Tyson Lake remain prominent, others such as Goose Lake Bed and Twin Lake Bed show the fluctuating nature of these prairie potholes over time.
