Kenai Fjords National Park and the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge dominate this coastal reach of the Kenai Peninsula. The landscape is defined by its dramatic glacial carved features, where steep-walled inlets like McCarty Fiord and North Arm Nuka Bay cut deep into the interior. At the center of the peninsula, Palisade Peak rises above a series of tidal waters and sheltered anchorages, including Pilot Harbor and Palisade Lagoon. The complex shoreline provides a variety of marine environments, from the tidal flats of James Lagoon to the protected waters of Quartz Bay and Surprise Bay. This map captures the coastal geography and hydrography as recorded in the early twenty-first century, showing the intricate drainage of Babcock Cr and the presence of Beautiful Isle within the wildlife refuge boundaries.
