Glacial ice and tidal waters define this section of Chugach National Forest along the northern reaches of Prince William Sound. The high peaks of the Chugach Mountains serve as the source for a remarkable concentration of ice, including the Lafayette Glacier, Amherst Glacier, Crescent Glacier, and Tommy Glacier in the northern townships. These ice fields feed the Avery River as it winds toward the coast, illustrating the dynamic relationship between high-altitude snowpack and the maritime environment.
