The Iroquois River winds through the northern half of this landscape, where the small settlement of Iroquois is positioned near its banks. Further south, the town of Sheldon serves as a local hub, defined by a grid of streets including Depot St and W Grove St, and situated just west of the border where Illinois meets Indiana at Effner. This borderland is a sophisticated network of agricultural water management, evidenced by numerous engineered waterways such as Sheldon Ditch Number 2 and the N Sheldon S Concord Ditch.
