1952 Map of Shullsburg

USGS Topo · Published 1954

About this map

Shullsburg serves as the industrial and social hub of this southwest Wisconsin landscape in the early 1950s, its hillsides scarred by a legacy of lead and zinc extraction. Evidence of the mining economy is visible in several Inactive Mines, a Quarry, and the significant Calumet and Hecla Mine Mine Dump. The Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific railroad cuts through the center of the quadrangle, connecting the main settlement to the community of Dunbarton and various rural outposts.
