The Yellowstone River flows through the northwestern corner of this landscape, marking a sharp transition between the river valley and the broken uplands to the east. This 2014 survey documents a rugged section of the borderlands where Richland County, Montana, meets McKenzie County, North Dakota. Much of the eastern portion of the sheet is comprised of the Little Missouri National Grassland, a terrain defined by deep drainages like Cheney Cr and Estes Coulee.
