About this map

The Kuskokwim River anchors the southern boundary of this interior Alaskan landscape, flowing through a wide valley floor marked by seasonal wetlands. The terrain rises sharply to the north, defined by a series of ridges and drainages that feed the larger river system. Among these are the S Fork George River in the northeastern corner and the winding course of Chubby Cr to the west. This 2019 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey illustrates the intersection of several township boundaries, including t20n r44w, illustrating the vast, unpopulated character of the Bethel Census Area where natural waterways remain the primary landmarks for navigation and land division.
