Smiths Station and the surrounding borderlands of Alabama and Georgia are defined by the harnessed waters of the Chattahoochee River system. This 2011 survey reveals an area of significant residential growth, from the established neighborhoods of Monterey Heights and Carriage Hill to the waterfront developments around Lake Oliver. The landscape is punctuated by a sequence of major hydroelectric and water-control structures, including Goat Rock Dam, Jordan Company Dam, and Oliver Dam, which have transformed the river into a series of large reservoirs like Bartletts Ferry Lake.
