Spencer serves as the focal point for this mid-century topographic survey, situated atop the plateau where State Route 30 and Route 111 intersect. The landscape is defined by the dramatic descent into Cane Creek and the beginnings of the eastern gorge system, including the spectacular Piney Creek Falls. To the southeast, the boundaries of Falls Creek Falls State Park are clearly delineated, protecting the falls and the complex network of surrounding branches like Horsepen Branch and Whetstone Creek.
