The Southern Pacific railroad line runs parallel to the Napa River, connecting the small settlements of Barro and Krug to the regional economy. High on the slopes of Howell Mountain, the community of Angwin is centered around Pacific Union College and the Newton Observatory, while the nearby Sanitarium serves as a distinct hillside landmark.
