1964 Map of Steep Creek Bench

USGS Topo · Published 1966

About this map

Dixie National Forest dominates the high desert landscape of Garfield County, where deep erosional drainage systems have carved a complex series of plateaus and steep-walled canyons. The transition from the high Steep Creek Bench down to The Gulch illustrates the dramatic verticality of the Escalante country before many of these remote reaches were formally designated as wilderness. Small-scale human activity is visible in the isolated Long Neck Cabin, connected only by a Jeep Trail that follows the ridge of Long Neck.
