About this map

The maritime landscape of Lake Ontario off the coast of Henderson is dominated by a chain of islands and treacherous points as they appeared in the late 19th century. Surveyed by W.H. Lovell and H.M. Wilson using reconnaissance methods, this area highlights the critical navigational aids required for safe passage. Key among these are the lighthouse at Galloo Id. L.H. and the light at Stony Point L.H., which together guided vessels around the larger landmasses of Stony Island and Galloo Island. Smaller features like Little Galloo Id. and Calf Id. dot the waters between the mainland and the deeper lake.
