The Lolo National Forest dominates this mid-1960s terrain, where the high ridges of the Rattlesnake Mountains form a complex drainage system north of Missoula. The landscape is defined by its transition from the Flathead Indian Reservation Boundary in the north to the recreational developments appearing on the southern slopes. Early winter sports infrastructure is evident at the Missoula Snow Bowl, complete with a Ski Tow and Ski Lift near Butler Creek.
