Stumpy Point occupies a narrow peninsula on the edge of the expansive Pamlico Sound, defined by its intimate relationship with the water. The settlement is centered around Bayview Dr, overlooking the protected waters of Stumpy Point Bay. The surrounding landscape is a low-lying coastal environment, where navigation and geography are marked by prominent landforms such as Old Point and Drain Point. Further south, the shoreline remains undeveloped, punctuated only by Wild Boar Point and Sandy Point. This 2013 survey illustrates the coastal character of Dare County, showing a community tightly clustered along the waterfront, where the land gradually transitions into the marshes and sounds of the North Carolina coast.
