Sovereign Mtn dominates the southern reaches of this high-altitude landscape in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, where steep topography defines the drainage patterns of the upper Talkeetna River. The river flows through the southeastern corner of the quadrangle, fed by the massive Talkeetna Glacier which stretches across the rugged eastern boundary. To the northwest, the headwaters of Iron Creek navigate the high country between t25n r4e and t25n r5e. This 2023 survey provides a detailed look at the contemporary glacial extent and alpine hydrology, illustrating the dramatic elevation changes and remote river systems that characterize this part of the Talkeetna Mountains.
