About this map

Chikuminuk Lake and Lake Chauekuktuli dominate this remote Alaskan interior landscape, separated by the high peaks of Ongutvak Mountain. Captured during a 1950s field study and published by the Geological Survey, the map illustrates the complex hydrology of the Wood-Tikchik region. The Allen River flows southeast through the center of the sheet, marked by a notable set of Rapids before it joins the Tikchik River system. The terrain is defined by extreme elevation changes, rising from the lake shores to several named peaks including Allen, Ekuk, and Tuli. This survey was conducted before modern development, recording land lines that were largely unsurveyed and unmarked at the time, providing a clear record of the area's natural drainage patterns and landforms as they existed in the mid-20th century.
