About this map

The Hoholitna River meanders across this interior landscape, defining the primary drainage for a region characterized by complex topography and numerous unnamed summits. Mapped in the mid-1950s using photogrammetric methods from aerial photographs, the area remained largely unsurveyed on the ground, with land lines representing predetermined locations established by the Bureau of Land Management. The lack of named settlements or roads highlights the isolation of this portion of the Seward Meridian during the mid-twentieth century. The river itself exhibits a heavily braided and winding course, particularly in the northern reaches where it cuts through low-lying marshy terrain before entering the more defined hillsides to the south.
