The Potlatch River winds through the heart of this North Idaho landscape, carving a deep drainage that separates the elevated agricultural plateaus of Texas Ridge and Big Bear Ridge. The terrain is defined by these prominent ridges and the tributary canyons of Pine Creek and Cedar Creek, which create a complex topography of steep slopes and high, flat farming ground. Small rural communities and family legacies are preserved through the naming of local landmarks such as Huffman Ridge and Bean Hill.
