Tigre Lagoon and the surrounding marshlands of Iberia Parish and Vermilion Parish dominate this coastal landscape. This survey documents the complex network of natural bayous and man-made navigation channels that facilitate maritime traffic along the Gulf coast. The Intracostal Waterway cuts a straight path through the wetlands, intersecting with Bayou Petite Anse and the Avery Canal. These waterways are vital for the regional economy, connecting the interior to the open waters of Vermilion Bay and the Gulf Of Mexico.
