Litchfield Park and the agricultural lands west of Phoenix anchor this topographic study, which captures the region during a period of significant suburban expansion. The 1982 revisions, shown in purple, illustrate the outward growth of Avondale and Goodyear as they began to transform the desert landscape. To the east, the traditional grid of Tolleson remains a focal point near the community of Cashion.

The hydrography of the Salt River Valley is clearly defined where the Aqua Fria River courses south to join the Gila River and the Salt River. This confluence at the bottom of the sheet highlights the importance of water management in the development of these Valley communities. From the outlier of West End to the established residential blocks, the map provides a clear record of the infrastructure supporting this mid-century transition from citrus groves and fields to residential neighborhoods.
