The Illinois Central Gulf and Norfolk and Western railroads define the development of these Champaign County prairie settlements in the early 1980s. Tolono serves as a primary junction, while the village of Pesotum sits to the south along the same corridor. The rural landscape between these hubs is dotted with small family and memorial grounds, including Bailey Memorial Cem and Craw Cem. The headwaters of the Kaskaskia River flow through the western portion of the sheet near Sadorus, where the Sadorus Cem overlooks the waterway.
