Marley sits along the southern edge of this landscape, where the prairie topography of Williams County is defined by a series of significant drainages. The land is dissected by Eightmile Cr, Sixmile Cr, and Horse Tied Cr, which have carved deep valleys and coulees into the high plains. One of the most prominent of these geological formations is Figley Coulee, a landform that illustrates the erosional forces typical of this region north of the Missouri River.

A network of section-line roads like 153rd Ave NW and 48th St NW grid the open country, providing access to remote homesteads and ranch lands. Near the southwestern corner, Buford Cem offers a grounded connection to the early families who settled this territory. The primary transport artery, ND-1804, follows the lower contours of the creek valleys, connecting the small community of Marley to the broader regional trade network.
