The Pamunkey River winds through the heart of this coastal Virginia landscape, defining the boundary between King William and New Kent counties. Along its southern banks, the Pamunkey Indian Reservation occupies a prominent bend, situated near the historic site of White House and the Southern railroad line. The interior terrain is characterized by a complex network of wetlands and creeks, including Dickerson Swamp and Black Creek, which dictated the placement of early settlements and transport routes.
