Wagon Johnies Ranch and Indian Garden stand as historical markers of ranching and land use in this high-desert portion of the Toiyabe National Forest. The landscape is defined by the hydrologic contrast between the basin of Little Fish Lake Valley, containing Upper Fish Lake, and the rising slopes of the Hot Creek Range. Water sources like Upper Warm Spring, Pott Hole Spring, and Brush Spring dictated the placement of roads and homesteads in an arid environment. A network of primitive routes, including South Upper Fish Lake Rd and Fourmile Canyon Road, provides access to deep drainages such as Green Monster Canyon and Cottonwood Canyon. The Clover Creek Trialhead serves as a gateway to the western canyons, where Clover Creek and South Danville Creek descend from the ridges.
