Evidence of a well-distributed rural population is found in the numerous rural schools and community centers like Beaulieu, Hallson, and Svold. In the southern portion of the map, the Tongue River meanders toward Hallson, while the boundary between Cavalier and Pembina Counties marks the local political geography. The density of small-plot farming is indicated by the frequent Farm Xing labels along the railroad, showing a highly active agricultural corridor during the mid-twentieth century.
