1968 Map of Weaver Ridge

USGS Topo · Published 1971

About this map

The White River flows across the northern edge of this high-desert plateau, cutting through a landscape defined by deep erosional features like Cripple Horse Canyon and Weaver Canyon. Spanning the state line between Utah and Colorado, the terrain is dominated by the prominent Weaver Ridge and the appropriately named Hells Hole Canyon. Industrial activity in the late 1960s is evident through a network of pipelines and numerous drill holes scattered across the ridges. The presence of Gas Wells and various mines and prospects suggests a period of intensive subterranean exploration. Remote infrastructure, including isolated Landing Strips and a complex system of jeep trails, provided the only access for resource extraction in this rugged borderland where Uintah and Rio Blanco counties meet.
