The White River carves through the northern reach of this high-desert landscape on the border of Utah and Colorado. Energy development and extraction define the area's mid-century character, evidenced by the presence of a Gas Well, multiple Drill Holes, and scattered Prospects throughout the rugged drainage basins. Industrial infrastructure is etched into the terrain, including a long Pipeline and a remote Landing Strip situated near the intersection of the Uintah and Rio Blanco county line.

Erosion has sculpted a complex network of canyons that feed into the river valley, most notably Cripple Horse Canyon, Weaver Canyon, and the starkly named Hell's Hole Canyon. The eastern portion of the sheet is dominated by the Gilsonite Hills and Gilsonite Draw, named for the unique hydrocarbon resin found in this region. This survey captures a moment when traditional resource extraction met the expanding infrastructure of the late 1960s, before later revisions updated the technical details of the Weaver Ridge area.
