Wells serves as the primary hub in this portion of the northern plains, where a grid of rural roads and drainage infrastructure defines the landscape. The town itself is positioned along a rail line and features historic burial grounds including Rosehill Cem and Saint Casimer Cem. Further south, the terrain becomes increasingly dictated by the E Br Blue Earth River and the waters of Rice Lake, near which the Rice Lake Cem is located.

Agricultural development is evident through the extensive network of engineered waterways such as County Ditch Number One and Judicial Ditch Number Fourteen.
