Thunder Meadow and a dense network of watercourses define this portion of Pine County in the early 21st century. The landscape is heavily influenced by the drainage of the West Fork Crooked Creek and the East Fork Crooked Creek, which converge as they flow toward the larger Crooked Creek. This area is characterized by numerous small bodies of water, including Lake Five, McGowan Lake, and the namesake Wilbur Lake.
