Theodore Roosevelt Lake dominates the central portion of this landscape, its complex shoreline defined by prominent features such as Steamboat Rock, Windy Hill, and Shelter Island. To the south, the Tonto National Monument protects canyons and buttes, including Deadman Canyon and Cholla Canyon, while the surrounding Tonto National Forest covers much of the high terrain toward the Sierra Ancha.
