Manti-La Sal National Forest and Fishlake National Forest converge in this high-elevation landscape, where the administrative boundary between Sanpete and Sevier counties follows the crest of the Wasatch Plateau. The terrain is defined by deep incisions like Twelvemile Canyon and prominent peaks such as Mt Baldy and Marys Nipple. The region serves as a significant drainage basin, with Twelvemile Creek and Salina Creek carving through the plateau. High-altitude lakes, including the eponymous Woods Lake, Blue Lake, and Deep Lake, dot the basins between ridges. A network of high-country routes, most notably Skyline Drive and the Great Western Trail, provides access across the ridgelines, connecting landmarks like Balsam Grove Ridge and Dead Horse Ridge. This modern survey illustrates the enduring wilderness character of the central Utah highlands.
