About this map

The Mississippi River meanders through a complex landscape of shifting towheads and river islands, including Glasscock Towhead and Turnbull Island, at the border of Mississippi and Louisiana. This mid-1980s data shows the river's influence on the surrounding parishes and counties, where extensive wetland management areas like Three Rivers State Wildlife Management Area and Red River State Wildlife Management Area dominate the alluvial floodplains. To the east, the terrain rises into the timberlands of the Homochitto National Forest.
