About this map

Wright and Tamarack anchor this northern Minnesota landscape, where the border of Aitkin Co and Carlton Co divides a region defined by extensive wetlands and glacial lake basins. The settlement at Wright is notable for its cluster of historic burial sites, including Saint Mary's Catholic Cem, Wright Catholic Cem, and Lakeview Cem, suggesting a long-established community center. The terrain is deeply aqueous, characterized by the meandering Little Tamarack River and a dense network of water bodies such as Cole Lake, Mattlia Lake, and the curiously named Section One Lake. Further south, the landscape becomes increasingly saturated near Louma Lake and Kettle Lake, where the headwaters of the Kettle River begin to take shape. This modern survey reflects the persistent character of a timber-and-bog environment where rural life follows the paths of Co Hwy 20 and Pacific Ave.
