Adel sits at a low elevation within a complex network of ridgelines and stream valleys at the border of Pittsburg and Pushmataha counties. The landscape is dominated by parallel sandstone ridges such as Jackfork Mtn and Turkey Mtn, which direct the drainage of numerous local waterways. Notable among these are Jackfork Cr and Clear Cr, which carve through the valleys before reaching the larger Kiamichi River seen at the southern edge of the survey area.
