Lake Arthur anchors the northwest corner of this Pecos Valley landscape, where the town grid meets the meandering path of the Pecos River. The terrain is defined by the hydrologic network of the high desert, including the winding Walnut Cr and Cottonwood Cr, which cut through the open country of the Chaves and Eddy county line. To the south, the topographic relief is shaped by the Dog Canyon Draw, a significant drainage feature in this arid environment.
