Powell River meanders through a landscape of deep hollows and narrow ridges as it flows toward the expansive waters of Norris Lake in this 1952 revision. The rugged topography of Cumberland Mountain dominates the northwestern corner, giving way to the settlement at Speedwell and the valley floor where Tenn 63 serves as the primary thoroughfare. The map reveals a densely settled rural landscape defined by family-named landmarks and numerous country churches, including Carr Chapel and Shipley Grove Church.

Evidence of the local river economy and small-scale industry is visible in the presence of Collins Mill and Russell Mill. Along the many bends of the river, such as Leadmine Bend and Wilson Bend, dozens of small family burial grounds are meticulously documented, including the Moyers Cemetery and Branscombe Cemetery. The southern portion of the quadrangle includes a significant section of the Chuck Swan Management Area, emphasizing the transition from private homesteads to managed conservation land during this era.
