Cave Run Lake dominates the western landscape of this terrain, where the Licking River winds through narrow valleys and into the vast reservoir. The area around Bangor and Mount Hope is a land of steep ridges and numerous small stream branches, such as Stillhouse Br and Sugar Cane Br, reflecting the deeply dissected topography of the region. This 2013 survey illustrates the balance between water-based recreation at the Zilpo Recreation Area and the quiet, dispersed upland settlements that define the local character.
