About this map

The Kissimmee River meanders across the Highlands and Okeechobee county line, defining a landscape of wetlands and hammocks in the early 1950s. This survey, later updated with photorevisions, illustrates the complex water management and transport systems of the Florida interior, including a Levee system and several Spoil Banks. Near the shore of Lake Istokpoga, the Istokpoga Canal and Istokpoga Creek reveal the efforts to control drainage in this low-lying region.
