The Allen Parish and Evangeline Parish boundary bisects this landscape of low-lying wetlands and managed forest as it appeared in the late 1990s. The small settlement of Beaver serves as the focal point, characterized by its Beaver Lookout Tower and nearby Beaver Cem. To the northwest, the edge of Oakdale marks the transition from more developed areas into the extensive conservation lands of the State Wildlife Mgmt Area and Mbswma.

A complex network of drainages, including Cypress Creek, Pecan Grove Creek, and the winding Marsh Bayou, defines the hydrology of the region. Local history is preserved in small burial sites such as Pecan Grove Cem and Delafosse Cem. Aviation and recreation also leave their mark on the terrain through the Leger Landing Strip and the waters of Leger Lake, providing a clear record of the area's rural character before the turn of the millennium.
