The Bering Land Bridge National Preserve occupies much of this central region of the Seward Peninsula, where the landscape is defined by its volcanic geology and tundra hydrology. Significant water bodies such as Lava Lake and Agnes Lake dominate the northern terrain, drained by the meandering Noxapaga River and smaller tributaries like Muskellunge Cr and Andesite Cr. This 2017 survey details a wilderness area at the boundary of the Nome Census Area and the Northwest Arctic Borough. The lack of road infrastructure or permanent settlements underscores the preservation of this remote arctic ecosystem, where the township and range lines of the Public Land Survey System provide the only human-imposed structure across the open expanse.
