The Wrangell-St. Elias Wilderness dominates this corner of the Copper River Census Area, preserving a massive expanse of high-altitude terrain where glacial and riverine systems intersect. The eastern reaches of the Granite Range rise sharply in the north, giving way to the massive peaks of the Saint Elias Mountains that span the southwestern portion of the sheet. Drainage patterns are defined by the Chitina River in the northeast and the creeping ice of the Logan Glacier in the southeast. This survey, compiled from National Hydrography and Elevation datasets, illustrates the complex topography of one of Alaska’s most formidable wilderness areas, where vertical relief and glacial movement dictate the landscape's character far from any developed roads or settlements.
